The friendship between Mexican composer ManuelPonce and Spanish guitarist Andrés Segoviacontributed significantly to the development of theguitar repertoire. In addition, several of the composer’s works thatwere not originally written for the guitar—such asScherzino Mexicano, Intermezzo, and Estrellita—have been arranged and incorporated into theguitar repertoire.Building upon this approach, Mr. Dorukhan Ersinconducted research into additional works suitablefor performance on the guitar and ultimatelyidentified Manuel Ponce’s “Prelude & Fugue”,originally composed for left-hand piano, as a workadaptable to the guitar. He subsequently arrangedthe piece for solo guitar.I hope that these highly valuable works, whichI consider to be a significant contribution to theguitar repertoire, will be performed withappreciation by guitarists.
